The narrow linear leaves are fresh green and turn a fiery red in summer. In other regions, Japanese bluegrass blooms from July to August with silver-grey flower spikes. Imperata cylindrica 'Red Baron' likes a sunny and sheltered spot in well-drained soil. This grass is drought tolerant, reasonably Hardy, tolerant to sea wind and air pollution and is a special accent plant for use in the border.
