The Monstera deliciosa is a stunning green indoor plant! With its large, green, heart-shaped leaves with clefts, it forms a real eye-catcher. Because of these clefts, it is also called the 'Swiss cheese plant'. In the tropical regions of South America, Monstera plants climb and creep around. Thanks to aerial roots, the plant attaches itself to trees and can climb up to 20 meters high! To ensure that even the lower leaves still receive light, the plant develops clefts. Therefore, the smallest leaves of this indoor plant may not yet have clefts.
The name 'Monstera' means 'strange' in Latin. 'Deliciosa' is derived from the delicious fruits that the plant bears in nature. These fruits are said to be very tasty, hence 'delicious'!
Originally from the jungle of South America, the Monstera thrives in moist and shady environments. Because of the size and sturdiness of the leaves, they are occasionally used as packaging material. Local residents in South America sometimes wrap fish in the leaves of the Monstera. However, we prefer to let it shine on the windowsill!
